who we are
Dance & Heart is a contemporary dance collective and movement space devoted to creating meaningful, embodied experiences. We produce original performance work, offer unique training, and cultivate spaces where movement becomes a way of connecting.
Our work spans contemporary dance, theatrical performance, youth and adult programming, and community-centred initiatives.
our approach
We exist to provide options for dancers who wish to grow and perform in their movement practice. Addressing a gap in opportunities for rural artists in particular, we root our creative process in community and represent dance as a vital art form in our local arts landscape.
We believe that everyone is a dancer, and that movement belongs to all bodies. We hold reflection and recovery as essential parts of building a sustainable life in dance, and we commit to creating spaces where judgment and shame have no place.
Training at Dance & Heart supports technical development alongside embodied awareness. Our classes encourage strength, curiosity, and confidence, offering dancers a space to grow without pressure while staying connected to their bodies and creative lives.
founder’s note
When I started Dance and Heart, my goal was simple: to get as many adults dancing in Centre Wellington as possible. I wanted to share the joy of movement and show that dance could be a viable, meaningful pursuit for adults, not just children or professionals.
Little did I know how expansive this community would become. Over time, I was amazed to see artists from all disciplines drawn to our work, bringing their unique talents: writing, costuming, visual design, building, singing, and more…enriching every performance and class. What began as a small dream to get adults moving has grown into a vibrant, collaborative ecosystem where creativity, expression, and care live side by side.
Every step, rehearsal, and shared moment in the studio reminds me that dance is bigger than any one person. It belongs to everyone who moves, and it has the power to connect us in ways that go beyond the stage.
